Justin Clapp, Director

Since joining Duke in 2009 as director of the Office of Access and Outreach, Justin has focused on creating programming that enables students, regardless of background, to access the full range of opportunities and experiences Duke has to offer.

A North Carolina native, he earned a B.S. in medical anthropology and gender studies from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a master’s degree in higher education administration from N.C. State University. Justin has a passion for social justice and equity in all that he does. He is also a guru on all things food in Durham.

Sherita Miller, Staff SpecialistSherita Miller

Sherita was born and raised on the coast of North Carolina before enrolling at N.C. Central University where she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Sherita is the expert problem-solver of the team. As a highly organized and caring professional, she believes there is never a problem without a solution. Being the center of the office culture, Sherita is the person to know.

Beatriz Velazquez, Program Coordinator ​

Beatriz’s roots originate in San Luis Potosí, México. At the age of 4, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Salisbury, NC with her family.  She was the first in her family to graduate from high school – and did so at the top of her class. She was also the first to attend college. In 2013, Beatriz earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. In college, Beatriz mentored Latinx high school youth. Her experiences with their challenges inspires her continued commitment to connect underrepresented populations with opportunities for personal and academic development.

Angel Wiggins, Program Coordinator

Angel is a native North Carolinian. She is the first in her family to attend college. At NC State University, Angel earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. Because of her commitment to helping youth recognize their academic aspirations, Angel continued her graduate studies to earn a Masters of Science in School Counseling from NC AT&T State University and a Masters of Arts in Career Counseling & Placement from North Carolina Central University. Angel is dedicated to her mission to pay-it-forward. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and traveling.
